About me
Jacquelyn Merrill Ruiz was raised in New England, forged in Los Angeles, and embraced by Cincinnati. She's written all manner of genres for years, but it was her poetry that earned her the coveted Master of Professional Writing at the University of Southern California.
Her most recent book, A Year Without a Season, tells the story of a woman anchored by cats and nature, navigating a new, post-pandemic world in her house, backyard, and beyond.
She currently lives in Ohio, where she toasts the full moon with kombucha and gathers thunderheads for later use.

Where to Find Me
Mostly, I write poetry.
You can find all of that here.
I’ve written everything from employee handbooks to love letters to fanfics to screenplays, but my newest and most professional occupation is writing contemporary romance. Soon, my finished trilogy will be released into the world—stories about three best friends finding love in unexpected places—like in Auckland, or on a heist to steal a monkey from a lab, or in the middle of a panic attack.
That’s where Jem Spears comes in. She’s the lighter, louder side of me, and her corner of the internet is coming soon—full of queer romance, chaotic love stories, and a lot more swearing. You’ll find a link here when it’s ready.
You can read the blog, explore my books, or connect on Goodreads or Bluesky. This site is the Jacquelyn Merrill Ruiz home base — Welcome!
